In the case of the A25, there will be an exemption "along the entire" length of the highway, according to the rule approved today during the specialized vote on the 2026 State Budget (OE2026).
Part of the A25 does not involve costs for users, but "a small section remained where toll collection continued, so now it is proposed to correct this incongruity, eliminating tolls on the entire A25 highway," the Socialist Party justified in the initiative.
In the case of the A6 and A2 highways, the exemption only covers individuals residing in and companies headquartered in specific "areas of influence" of the two highways.
The exemption covers sections of the A6 between the A2/A6/A13 junction and Caia, and the A2 between the A2/A6/A13 junction and Almodôvar.
The exemption works "through the use of an electronic device associated with the vehicle's license plate," according to the PS initiative.
To determine who can benefit from the exemption from payment, the legislation stipulates that the areas of influence comprise, in the case of the A6, "the territory covered by the NUTS III regions of Alto Alentejo and Alentejo Central" and, in the case of the A2, "the territory covered by the NUTS III regions of Baixo Alentejo and Alentejo Litoral."
