Lisbon, Leiria, and Coimbra are under an orange warning between 6:00am on Tuesday and midnight on Wednesday, and the alert is in effect in Faro, Setúbal, and Beja for the same reasons but until 3:00am on Wednesday.
In these districts, "north westerly waves of five to six metres are expected, potentially reaching a maximum height of 10 metres," according to a statement from the IPMA.
These six districts, as well as Porto, Guarda, Viana do Castelo, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Braga, and Madeira (north coast and Porto Santo), will be under a yellow warning for different reasons – rough seas, snow, and wind – at different times between today and Wednesday.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a "moderate to high risk weather situation," and the yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation.
