According to the Lusa news agency, this is the highest number of candidates in the last five years.
The PSP held a competition between November 28 and December 23, 2025, to create a reserve list for entry into the agent training course aimed at entering the agent career.
In a response sent to the Lusa news agency, the national directorate of the PSP reveals that 4,027 candidates are applying for the agent course, 3,102 men and 925 women, 635 more than last year, when 3,392 applied.
In this new recruitment process, the new admission rules are already in effect, such as increasing the maximum age from 30 to 35 years and the minimum height for men to 1.60 metres.
According to the PSP, the process is currently in the application analysis phase, followed by the publication of provisional lists of admitted and excluded candidates, before moving on to the selection methods application phase.
201 people also applied for the career of police officers in the Civil Police music band.
The PSP anticipates that the next agent training course will have 800 trainees and will begin in the second half of June.
They are currently taking the agent training course at the police academy in Torres Novas, in the Santarém district, which began in September and ends in May, with nearly 600 trainees.
