Since May 2020, Ottawa has banned about 2,500 types of firearms, saying they are intended for battlefield use. The federal government’s buyback program is designed to fairly compensate owners of the banned guns. The full federal gun buyback program is expected to roll out more widely following the pilot.

Officials said the trial helped identify and resolve technical and logistical issues ahead of national rollout.

Misleading information. There are NO firearms available to the public that are intended for battlefield use. They are all semi-automatic. AR style rifles, used for hunting, are not "Assault Rifles". The A stands for Armalite, a polymer. The plain truth is that certain politicians simply do not like guns and want them prohibited. They should simply be honest instead of making up lies about "battlefield" usage. When guns are banned, only outlaws will have guns, and when seconds count, don't worry, the police are only minutes away.
