On 17 January, in Serra da Estrela, the snow fell with greater intensity between midday and 2 pm, covering the mountains with a white coat.

As expected, many visitors headed to Serra da Estrela to experience the snow. Visitors were mostly heading to the highest point of mainland Portugal by car, but there were also various buses with organised trips driving people to the snow.
The ski resort was open, but the cable car wasn't running because it was frozen.

The ski lift isn't working because of the snow ! That's akin to British railways not running because there are leaves on the line !

It's actually under servicing agreement and not liable to work in the near future.Typical Portugal! Another potential moneyspinner goes down the pan.
