Organised by the cultural association Ideias do Levante in partnership with the Municipality of Lagoa, the festival will take place between May 17 and 24, 2026, held in some of the region's most symbolic and historical venues. This edition proposes a music journey spanning centuries of history, from 16th-century sacred polyphony to contemporary choral expressions, reaffirming the importance of cultural and community sharing through the human voice.
The solemn opening will take place on May 17 at 5pm at the Lagoa Parish Church (Igreja Matriz), featuring the prestigious performance of Grupo Vocal Olisipo, under the direction of Armando Possante. The musical journey continues on May 20 at the Porches Parish Church, where the General Choir of the Bemposta School Group and the Ideias do Levante Choir will join forces to celebrate the vitality of local choral singing. The festival’s closing ceremony is scheduled for May 24 at 5pm at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa, bringing together on one stage the group Bella Acapella, the VoxAradeXXV project, and once again, the Ideias do Levante Choir, for a moment of collective celebration that promises to move the audience.
Originally envisioned by José Carlos Bago d'Uva, the Lagoa Choral Week is described as a milestone that makes four-part polyphony resonate throughout the "Levante" lands, uniting generations and preserving musical memories that once echoed in the mythical cistern of the St. Joseph Convent. Roberto Estorninho, the event's executive producer, reinforces that the essence of the project lies in music's ability to create human bonds and lasting friendships. For the organisation, this festival is not just a series of concerts, but a meeting point where the musical beat synchronises with the heart of the community, promoting unity through the dedication and enthusiasm of its participants.
Founded in 1995, Ideias do Levante continues to play a central role in promoting performing arts in the Algarve. This edition of the Choral Week relies on the strategic support of the Municipality of Lagoa, local Parish Councils, Churches, and various private partners, strengthening the collaborative network that sustains the region's cultural life.
All concerts of the 26th Lagoa Choral Week are free of charge and open to the public, recommended for ages 6 and up, and limited to the venue's capacity. To ensure better audience management, advanced reservations can be made, while the general public can collect free tickets for the closing concert at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium box office during the week preceding the show. Detailed information regarding schedules, reservations, and locations can be found on the official event portal at www.semanacoral.net.
