The project aims to transform coastal transport with faster, quieter and zero-emission travel. The ferries use hydrofoils to lift above water, reducing drag and cutting energy use by about 80 percent. Norway continues to lead global innovation in electric maritime transport, and the first ferries are expected to be in service by 2027.

The operator Boreal has ordered 20 vessels. They can travel around 25 knots and recharge in about one hour. The technology enables the electrification of high-speed routes previously reliant on fossil fuels.
