The top 5 most sustainable destinations for camping enthusiasts are led by Spain, followed by Austria, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.
Methodology
To arrive at the results, “DiscoverCars.com analysed 2 to 4 popular family campsites in each country included in the survey, with the aim of determining the lowest average cost of a one-week stay between 27 July and 2 August,” as quoted in a press release sent to The Portugal News. To reach the conclusion, the company “combined this cost with car rental rates in the region for the same period, thus calculating the total average cost of a one-week trip.”
Portugal at the Top
Portugal occupies the first position in the ranking, “as the costs of camping and car rental for a week came to just €363.” DiscoverCars.com also concludes that Portugal has the lowest car rental prices (€143) and that the lowest average camping cost is €220 for a one-week stay.
Other countries
According to the statement sent to The Portugal News, DiscoverCars.com says the cost of camping and car rental in Spain is €398. In Austria, the values reach €445. In the case of the United Kingdom, the combination of the two services can cost €504, while in Sweden they can cost €552.
The other side of the coin
On the other hand, DiscoverCars.com also analysed the most expensive destinations and concluded that the Netherlands has an average cost of €1021 for the two services. Switzerland follows with an average cost of €958. Rounding out the top 5 are Norway (€776), Finland (€637), and France (€629).
Best ways to enjoy Summer
Aleksandrs Buraks, Head of Growth at DiscoverCars.com, quoted in the press release, comments: “One of the best ways to enjoy summer with the family is to pack your camping gear in the car and set off to discover a picturesque destination. Our study identified the best destinations for an affordable family camping trip this summer and concluded that Portugal is the ideal location! Whether you prefer camping near beautiful hiking trails or staying close to the beach, you may not need to leave Portugal to have an amazing vacation this summer. However, neighbouring Spain came in second place – so if you’re looking for an overseas vacation, why not take a road trip there?
If you are planning to take your family camping this summer, remember to research the local traffic laws of the country you are visiting and make sure you have the correct documentation with you. It is best to book your rental car and camping in advance to reduce costs.”
