“Previsão de Deriva” is a contemporary exhibition by Márcio Vilela at Arquipélago, an art centre in São Miguel, Azores. It was shown from 14 March to 14 June 2026 as part of the official programme for Ponta Delgada 2026, the Portuguese Capital of Culture.

The exhibition comes from a 56-hour drift at sea carried out by the artist in the Azores in 2021, during a residency at Pico do Refúgio. That journey, monitored by maritime authorities, became the basis for a work that turned this risk and uncertain journey into art.

Inside the gallery, the project appears as a mixed media, from film, photography, drawing, and found objects. Rather than simply documenting the sea crossing, the installation translates it into several visual forms, allowing visitors to follow the experience as both an artwork and a reflection on control, freedom, and being “at the mercy of the current”.
