After years of hearing the same frustration from students - that Portuguese grammar simply wasn't sticking, no matter how many hours they spent studying, Gabriel realised there was a gap in the learning materials available to adult learners.

Traditional flashcards tended to focus on children or simple vocabulary. They worked well for learning words, but did little to address some of the biggest challenges Portuguese learners actually face: verb conjugations, prepositions, past tenses and other complex grammar structures.

VocaSpark was created to change that.

Rather than asking learners to memorise grammar rules or isolated words, VocaSpark uses grammar in context and active recall, helping students repeatedly encounter difficult structures until they become more familiar and easier to use.

Two years later, VocaSpark has grown into a collection of eight European Portuguese decks, covering key grammar topics across different stages of the learning journey. More than 5,000 learners across 23 countries have already used VocaSpark to bring Portuguese practice away from the screen and into their everyday lives.
