"From January to August 2026, 197,632 new vehicles were put into circulation, representing an increase of 10.3% compared to the same period of the previous year," the association indicated in a statement.
In August alone, 17,209 motor vehicles were registered in Portugal, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same month of 2025.
In the accumulated period from January to August, 169,323 light vehicles were registered, a year-on-year increase of 9.5%.
During this period, 75.6% of newly registered passenger vehicles were powered by alternative energy.
In particular, 26.8% of new passenger vehicles were electric.
In turn, the light vehicle market reached 22,299 units, a gain of 9.8% compared to the same period in 2025.
Through August, registrations of heavy vehicles totalled 6,010 units, advancing 39.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
