Over the five days, the fairground (Largo da Feira) will feature a variety of rides, including a Ferris wheel and bumper cars, along with food areas, stalls selling handicrafts and other goods, and a vehicle display.

Entry is free, and the fair opens at 6:00 pm on the first day and at 4:00 pm from Thursday to Sunday, closing at midnight each day.

According to statements quoted in the event’s promotional material, the Olhão City Council stressed its aim of recovering this cultural identity and recreating a community space where commerce, entertainment, and intergenerational socialising can once again merge.

Historic event

The event, which dates back to the 18th century, was granted feira franca status (a tax-exempt fair) in 1752 and has regularly drawn vendors and visitors from across the country every September.

It was first held at the old Campo da Feira but moved to the Prainhas area in the 19th century because of urban expansion. In the second half of the 20th century, the fair became one of the Algarve’s main popular attractions, thanks to its circuses, rides, and traditional stalls, while remaining a major festive event in the region despite numerous cancellations and location changes.
