Crews have officially begun installing the massive overhead frames, intricate wire sculptures, and sparkling LED lights across the iconic commercial grid of the Baixa, Chiado. It is a felt shift in the city's seasonal rhythm, transforming grand plazas and bustling shopping arteries into a winter wonderland long before the first chill of December truly sets in.

What seems to be premature also shows us how quickly time passes. Holiday decoration while the still mild Lisbon sun is shining ever bright.

While the cables and bulbs are being meticulously strung into place now, city officials and local merchant associations traditionally plan to flip the switch and illuminate the downtown district during the last week of November.
