The 16km fjord, located along the Wild Atlantic Way, was praised for its spectacular mountain scenery, tranquillity and outdoor experiences. Ireland’s only fjord joins world-famous attractions including the Galápagos Islands and India’s Darjeeling Himalayan Railway on the global travel list.

Visitors to Killary Fjord can explore its waters by boat, kayak or paddleboard, while nearby attractions include Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey.

Lonely Planet also highlighted the area’s scenery, slower pace and local experiences. The recognition was welcomed by the local tourism community, which described the accolade as a proud moment for the wider Connemara region.
