According to the “Rapid Statistics on Air Transport” from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Portuguese airports handled 13.953 million passengers during the first quarter.
This is an annual increase of 2.4%, driven by the historic monthly highs reached in January and March.
In the first three months of the year, Faro Airport registered 1.241 million passengers (8.9% of the national total), a growth of 4.0% compared to the first quarter of 2024 (1.193 million).
Lisbon Airport handled 54.6% of total passengers (7.6 million), a year-on-year increase of 1.4%.
Porto Airport accounted for 23.0% of the total number of passengers handled (3.2 million) and increased by 2.6%.
France was the main country of origin and destination for flights in the first quarter of this year, having recorded a “slight growth” in the number of disembarked passengers and a decrease in embarked passengers compared to the same period in 2024 (+0.4% and -1.3%, respectively).
The United Kingdom and Spain occupied 2nd and 3rd positions as the main countries of origin and destination, followed by Germany and Brazil.
