Jenny Clarke, President of The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve was also on hand to man-the-decks and assure everyone that the ‘Tardis’ had landed safely in the adjacent field and that ‘Sham Rock’ and her band were still in one piece.

“I knew something was up when the happy-hippy-seventies lot arrived, a smattering of ‘Springsteins’ and a bunch of wafting flower-power ladies wondered in.” A good old-fashioned 60’s swinger, Karen took the prize-winning hamper. “We’re not quite sure why, but the event was an outstanding success.”

Jenny and Anita believe it may have been something to do with the up-turn of the weather, the beautiful ambiance and a bunch of ravers starving for some spring madness. The event raised an amazing 1125€ split amongst the raffle, cake-bake and the sit down buffet lunch (retro of course luvvy-darlings!).

There were some fresh new faces, to welcome and some of course some from the good-old-days. “An amazingly happy mix!”. Well done Team APAA. All the funds raised are for Steralisation SNiP programme, cat-colonies and abandoned animals. Whilst raving, the work still carries on. ‘Snow’ came home with a broken leg.

The cat was obviously distressed so the owner hurried him off to the vets. Good. Unfortunately, the cost of repair and care completely out of the family’s budget. A cry for help. Jackie the treasurer, immediately sprang into action, despatching an urgent e-mail with advice of which vets to approach. ‘Snow’ will be in good hands.

‘Here to Help’ is APAA’s motto and the team take it very seriously indeed. “We try to make sure that the public get a fair deal. They expect the best but sometimes cannot afford the price. But price does not always reflect the level of care. As long as the cat gets the right treatment that is what counts!” Indeed. “In giving help we insist that the animals are steralised and chipped.” Whilst doing her rounds Jenny has found a little male ginger cat looking for a home. “He is called ‘Possy’ and is a sweet little fellow.” Interested? Go on check him out!
