The programme is now the largest participatory budgeting programme globally, worth hundreds of millions of euros annually. Funded projects include rooftop farms, children’s play areas, community murals, and homeless support services.

Since its launch in 2014, more than 21,000 ideas have been submitted and 1,345 projects funded. Residents vote on proposals online and at ballot boxes across the city each autumn. The funds include €263 million designated for low-income districts.
