The event is organised by Indivisible Porto as part of a broader day of action by Americans around the world calling attention to concerns about the direction of U.S. democracy and the actions of the Trump Administration.

Speakers at the Porto rally will address several issues that have generated strong concern among Americans abroad, including voter suppression, attacks on transgender rights, cuts to humanitarian programs such as USAID, and the treatment and abuse of immigrants. Organisers say the event reflects the frustration and alarm many Americans are feeling about policies they believe undermine democratic institutions and the rule of law.

The rally also aims to encourage greater civic engagement among Americans living in northern Portugal, including contacting elected representatives and participating in upcoming U.S. elections.

While the event is organised primarily for Americans living in Porto, Portuguese residents and visitors are welcome to attend as a sign of shared support for democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law.

Organisers expect Americans from across the Porto region to participate in the gathering, which forms part of the larger “No Kings” demonstrations taking place internationally on March 28.
