In the semi-final on 12 May, the first of the competition will feature, in addition to Portugal, which is currently in fifth place, Moldova (with the song “Viva, Moldova”, performed by Satoshi), Sweden (“My System”/Felicia), Croatia (“Andromeda”/Lelek), Greece (“Ferto”/Akylas), Georgia (“On Replay”/Bzikebi), Finland (“Liekinheitin”/ Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen), Montenegro (“Nova zora”/ Tamara Živković), Estonia (“Too epic to be true”/V.Ninja), Israel (“Michelle”/Noam Betten), Belgium (“Dancing on the ice”/Essyla), Lithuania (“Sólo quiero más”/Lion Ceccah), San Marino (“Superstar”/Senhit), Poland (“Pray”/Alicja) and Serbia (“Kraj mene”/Lavina).
Of the 15 countries, only ten will advance to the final, scheduled for 15 May, and, according to the average of several betting houses, calculated by the website eurovisionworld.com, which specialises in the contest, Portugal's passage is not certain.
On 11 May, Portugal was in 11th place in bets on the first semi-final.
The holding of two semi-finals to determine the countries competing in the final happened for the first time in 2008, and since then, Portugal has failed to qualify five times: in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2019.
In addition to the countries in competition, the representatives of Italy ("Per sempre sì"/Sal Davinci) and Germany ("Fire"/Sarah Engels) will also take the stage, countries that have guaranteed passage to the final, as they are part of the 'Big 5' group.
Second semi-final
In the second semi-final, on 14 May, 16 more countries will compete for ten more spots in the final: Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Romania, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Armenia, Switzerland, Cyprus, Latvia, Denmark, Australia, Ukraine, Albania, Malta, and Norway.
In addition, songs from three other countries with direct entry to the final will be presented: France and the United Kingdom, from the ‘Big 5’, and Austria, the host country of this year's edition.
TV transmission
The semi-final on 12 May will begin airing at 8 pm Lisbon time and will be broadcast live worldwide. In Portugal, it is shown on RTP channels RTP 1, RTP Mundo, RTP África, and RTP Play.
