According to information available on the official ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal website, Jet2 flights from Manchester, Bristol, and Liverpool, an Azores Airlines flight from Ponta Delgada, and an Iberia flight from Madrid were unable to land in Madeira.

The planes from Manchester and Bristol were diverted to the airport on Porto Santo Island, where they are awaiting improved weather conditions, while the others were diverted to other airports.

According to ANA, Easyjet flights from London and Lisbon are cancelled, as are two TAP flights scheduled to depart from the capital's airport.

The situation is also affecting departures from Madeira Island, with many hundreds of passengers affected, although some flights are able to take advantage of wind breaks and improved wind speed to land.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) indicates that the forecast for today in Madeira is for very cloudy skies, with clearings on the southern slope and in the island's highlands.

As for the wind, it will be from the north/northeast, sometimes blowing strongly (up to 45 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 65 kilometres per hour) in the highlands and at the eastern and western extremes of Madeira. On the southern slope of the island, it will generally blow weakly (less than 20 kilometres per hour).
