More than 160 people attended the event, filling the venue with family members, friends, healthcare professionals, educators, caregivers and members of the wider community.

The book tells the true story of my daughter Maria, a young woman with autism and intellectual disability, and our family's journey through the challenges, fears, setbacks and victories that have shaped our lives over the past two decades.

The response to the book has been overwhelming. More than 140 copies were acquired on the evening of the launch alone, and including subsequent sales and confirmed orders from Portugal and Switzerland, the book has now surpassed 200 copies sold.

Throughout the evening, many attendees shared their own experiences and emotions. There were tears, embraces and conversations that continued long after the formal presentation had ended. It became clear that Maria's story had resonated far beyond our own family.

One thought has remained with me ever since:

“I believe the tears shed that night were not tears of sadness, but of recognition — many families saw a part of their own story reflected there.”

At its heart, this book is not only about disability or autism. It is about unconditional love, perseverance, family bonds and the strength that can emerge even in the most difficult circumstances. It is a story that speaks to parents, caregivers, professionals and anyone who has ever faced adversity with hope.
