The €12 million project was recently unveiled by the local council and is designed to make the most of the area's natural landscape while attracting more visitors to the region. Covering around 45 hectares near São João da Mata, the park will be developed in three phases.

Focus on outdoor activities

Rather than a traditional amusement park, the new attraction will focus on outdoor activities and active tourism. Plans include an alpine coaster, zipline, downhill mountain biking trail, climbing areas, treetop adventure courses, free-fall experiences and a Crazy Cart circuit designed for younger visitors.

One of the project's standout features will be a cable car stretching for around one kilometre, linking the centre of Castanheira de Pêra directly to the park. As well as providing easy access, the route is expected to offer panoramic views over the surrounding mountains and countryside.

Recognised location

Its location next to Praia das Rocas, one of Portugal's best-known inland beach complexes, will also allow visitors to combine the adventure park with water-based activities such as canoeing, paddleboarding and cable wakeboarding, creating a full-day destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

According to the municipality, the project is intended to promote sustainable tourism while creating jobs and supporting local businesses, including hotels, restaurants and shops. Officials believe it will strengthen the appeal of the wider Central Portugal region as an outdoor tourism destination.

A construction timetable and opening date have not yet been announced.
