Founded in 2003, Grupo Saída de Emergência has built a loyal readership through its catalogue of genre fiction and operates several publishing imprints, including Saída de Emergência, Chá das Cinco and Desassossego.

According to Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, the three imprints will continue to operate independently following the acquisition, preserving their editorial identity while becoming part of the international publishing group. The company said the addition of Grupo Saída de Emergência will increase its catalogue in Portugal to more than 8,000 titles.

The acquisition further strengthens Penguin Random House's position in Portugal, where it already owns several publishing imprints. The company, which was formed through the merger of Penguin Books and Random House in 2013, is now part of the German media group Bertelsmann and publishes books by some of the world's best-known authors.
