The stock of direct investment from Angola in Portugal amounted to €4,525.7 million at the end of 2025, an increase of 50.9% compared to the previous year and 152% compared to 2021, according to statistics compiled by the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP).
Conversely, Portuguese investment in Angola totalled €2,410.4 million, 9.7% less than in 2024 and below the value recorded in 2021.
The balance, which was positive for Portugal at €725 million in 2021, became negative at €2,115.3 million in 2025, compared to €331.2 million in the previous year.
Between 2021 and 2025, Angola rose from 14th to 9th place among the 62 countries considered by the Bank of Portugal as investors in Portugal, while Portugal fell from third to seventh place among the destinations of Portuguese direct investment abroad.
Considering the criteria of the end investor, the Angolan 'stock' in Portugal was even larger, at €5,168.8 million, 45.2% more than in 2024.
In the first quarter of 2026, Angola invested €96.1 million in Portugal, while Portuguese investment in Angola was negative at €50.2 million, contrasting with €22.2 million in the same period last year.
In tourism, Angola yielded €410 million to Portugal in 2025, 4.2% less than in 2024, being the 14th largest source market among the 62 countries considered.
Tourism revenues from Angolans continued to fall in the first quarter of this year, declining 6.5% to €104.6 million.
Conversely, Portuguese spending on trips to Angola rose 10.6% in 2025, to €42.4 million, and increased 14.2% in the first quarter of 2026.
