The artworks were stolen from the private museum of the Magnani Rocca Foundation in March. The recovery returns the valuable works to their owners, while nine Moldovan nationals are in custody as suspects pending an investigation into the theft and possible links to others.

The recovered works are Renoir’s Fish, Cézanne’s Still Life with Cherries and Matisse’s Odalisque on the Terrace. A fourth painting was abandoned during the thieves’ escape after an alarm was triggered. Cézanne’s painting is the most valuable of the recovered works, having last sold at auction for $7 million. Police have not disclosed details of the recovery operation.
