The municipality of Cascais intends to honour his “unique career in service of democracy, freedom, social communication, and the development of Portugal” by naming an avenue after him.

The ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Cascais, Nuno Piteira Lopes, the President of the Cascais and Estoril Parish Council, Francisco Kreye, the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz. Family members of Francisco Pinto Balsemão will also be present at the inauguration ceremony.

Francisco Pinto Balsemão Avenue will be located “on the road that connects the Pedro Monjardino Roundabout to Nossa Senhora do Cabo Avenue, next to the São Jorge de Oitavos Fort, a highly central and visible thoroughfare, befitting the importance of one of the most remarkable figures in Portuguese public life.”

Francisco Pinto Balsemão died on 21 October 2025 and was one of the founders of the political party PSD. Pinto Balsemão was also Prime Minister in Portugal, and founded the Grupo Impresa, responsible for the first private TV channel in Portugal, SIC, and the newspaper Expresso, founded in 1973.
