The Sociedade Recreativa Filarmónica Fundação Brasileira, from the Azores, "presents for the first time outside of Portugal the show 'Musical Encounter Azores-Cape Verde - 50 Years, Two Archipelagos, One Sea'", according to a note from the organisation.

The initiative takes place at the National Assembly, in Praia, at 7:30 pm local time (9:30 pm in Lisbon), with free admission, and brings together Azorean and Cape Verdean musicians in a program dedicated to the cultural and maritime connections between the two archipelagos.

The 90-minute program includes symphonic music from the Brazilian Foundation Orchestra and performances by Cape Verdean artists, including the group Raiz di Polon, Jaime Goth, and dancers.

The initiative marks the 50th anniversary of the Autonomy of the Azores, established in 1976, and the independence of Cape Verde, proclaimed in 1975, under the motto "50 Years of Autonomy, 50 Years of Future: United by the Atlantic."

The program is divided into five thematic acts, beginning with "The Call of the Atlantic," which evokes maritime crossings and blends Azorean whaling songs with traditional Cape Verdean rhythms.

"Roots and Memories," the second act, brings together the viola da terra and the cavaquinho and includes traditions such as chamarrita, pezinho, batuque, funaná, and tabanca.

The third segment, "50 Years of Journey," presents the original suite "Five Decades of Own Voice," accompanied by historical images and narration about the processes of autonomy of the Azores and independence of Cape Verde.

"Human Bridges," the fourth act, is dedicated to the diaspora and includes community testimonies, ending with the vocal duet "Sea of ​​Encounter," between Azorean and Cape Verdean voices.

The program concludes with "Atlantic of the Future," a choral and orchestral piece dedicated to ocean sustainability, the blue economy, and youth.

In addition to the public performance, the Brazilian Foundation will participate in a local volunteer mission and develop capacity-building activities in Cape Verde to strengthen cooperation between the two archipelagos.
