Trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries reached 127.2 billion dollars, amounting to approximately €108 billion in the first six months of 2026, Executive Digest reports.

This surge represents growth of 24.67 percent compared to the same period last year.

Imports outpace exports

Data from China’s Customs Service, released by the Macau Forum, shows that Chinese imports from Portuguese-speaking countries grew even faster, reaching 75.87 billion dollars, a 26.63 percent increase year-on-year, between January and June.

Meanwhile, China’s exports to Portuguese-speaking countries totalled 51.335 billion dollars in the same period, representing an increase of 21.89 percent.

This resulted in China recording a trade deficit of approximately 24.5 billion dollars with Portuguese-speaking countries, with imports significantly exceeding exports.

In June alone, trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries reached 26.433 billion dollars, representing a 32.73 percent increase compared with the same period of 2025.

June trade accelerates

During June, Chinese imports grew more quickly than exports, with 16.693 billion dollars’ worth of goods from Portuguese-speaking countries imported, representing a 34.88 percent increase year-on-year.

Chinese exports to these markets reached 9.74 billion dollars, registering growth of 29.19 percent.

Macau maintains a role as a platform connecting Chinese and Portuguese-speaking markets, with the data highlighting the growing scale of economic relations between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
