The facility—provided to the refugee support organisation "Ukrainian Refugees UAPT"—offers physical therapy, functional recovery and psychological support in a setting very different from the war area.

The project receives logistical assistance from the Portuguese Army and support from a number of civil society organisations.

The latest group, which includes service personnel and their families—31 people—will stay in the country until 21 October, the end of the period authorised by the Ukrainian authorities for treatment abroad.

In this group are combatants who have had their limbs amputated as a result of landmine blasts, together with soldiers who are receiving intensive medical care.

The peace and quiet of the Olival parish provide a welcome break for the children from the constant disruption caused by missiles and drones in Ukraine.

Since January 2026, the centre has also provided its services to groups consisting of mothers and children—relatives of soldiers who have been killed or are missing—although it still suffers from financial difficulties and depends on donations to carry on with its work.
