Hudson, a Professor in Tourism and Hospitality, says his book – titled “Introduction to Hospitality Management” – is not just for students and educators in hospitality.
“I think anyone starting out in the hospitality profession – and even seasoned professionals – will find this book of interest”, he shared. “I’ve included all the latest trends in hospitality management in a post-COVID world, whilst having embedded themes of innovation, technology, and sustainability current to 2025.”
The book covers all sectors of hospitality, including lodging, food and beverage management, attractions, theme parks, cruises, casinos, and events. There are also chapters dedicated to the topics of sustainability and entrepreneurship. In fact, in the book, Hudson has profiled a number of successful hospitality entrepreneurs, including two couples in Portugal who are making a mark in the tourism and hospitality sector.
In the book, Hudson acknowledges that face-to-face interactions with customers are becoming scarcer with the advent of technology and artificial intelligence. “I think organisations in hospitality should be open to the adoption of AI in order to keep up with customers’ rising expectations, but they should utilise a combination of artificial and human intelligence to compete effectively. When I think of all the successful companies that I have profiled in the book, they all have one thing in common: they prioritise the human touch. So although AI is going to be increasingly important in the hospitality industry, we should not lose sight of the importance of face-to-face human interactions.”
Introduction to Hospitality Management, Hudson’s 12th book, is published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis in the UK: www.routledge.com/Hospitality-Management
