According to the IPMA, the alert is valid from 9am today and continues until 9pm on Friday, in the aforementioned districts due to persistently high maximum temperatures. While Bragança, Vila Real, Lisbon, Castelo Branco and Portalegre will be under a yellow warning from 9am on Thursday to 9pm on Friday.
In mainland Portugal, the IPMA has warned that temperatures will continue to rise until Saturday, reaching over 33 degrees Celsius, along with a reduction in air humidity and strong winds, which are meteorological conditions that significantly increase the risk of rural fires.
Following the weather forecast, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has recommended that the population adapt their behaviour, taking into account the increased risk of fires.
Additionally, the Special Rural Fighting Device (DECIR/25) has been activated, with around 8,900 operatives mobilised, supported by more than 1,8000 vehicles and 33 aerial resources.
This hot weather forecast has also led the Directorate-General for Health to advise preventive measures, such as regularly drinking water and avoiding alcoholic beverages.
In the statement, the DGS noted that sun exposure should be avoided between 11am and 5pm, suggesting the use of light clothing that covers most of the body, wearing a hat and sunglasses, as well as sunscreen with factor 30 protection, and reapplying it every two hours.
