According to Cometlis, the activists from the environmental movement Climáximo were arrested near a roundabout accessing the airport, “out of step with the protest”, and taken to the Olivais police station.

In a statement, the PSP said that two men and two women, aged between 20 and 42, were arrested on 1 June “for the crime of disobedience, after blocking a traffic lane”.

The arrest took place at 5:20 pm, at the roundabout next to the BP fuel station at the Airport, and the four people arrested were subsequently taken to the PSP Olivais police station “to complete the arrest formalities”.

In turn, the Climáximo movement confirmed the arrests in a statement and claimed that three other people were identified inside Humberto Delgado Airport.

According to the PSP, however, only two men, aged 34 and 40, were identified at around 4:30 pm, near the check-in area of Terminal 1 of Humberto Delgado Airport, and “two badges that the PSP suspected were going to be used illegally and that could disrupt the normal functioning of airport activity” were also seized.

The PSP also says that all situations – arrests, identifications and seizures – have already been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The other activists marched to the Olivais police station, where they promised to wait for the four detainees to be released.

“We call on everyone to show up in solidarity, at the vigil, and to join the climate resistance,” said spokesperson Maria Lourenço, quoted in the statement.

Around 50 climate activists demonstrated on 1 June near Lisbon airport in a protest to create “disruption during peak flight hours.”

After a march lasting almost 40 minutes, which stopped traffic in the area of the Relógio roundabout, the protesters sat down on the road at 4:40 p.m., but did not block access to the airport.

The initiative promoted by the environmental movement Climáximo began at 3 p.m. with a gathering at the Relógio roundabout, followed by a march towards the airport.
