French real estate agencies are betting big on the national market, attracting mainly retirees to buy or rent a house in the country.

According to a survey conducted by Jornal de Notícias, the number of French companies operating in the Portuguese real estate sector already exceeds three dozen. And they have seen their revenues soar since the pandemic, with Nestenn and Barnes being two examples.

French real estate agencies told the same newspaper that there is a growing interest in houses for permanent residence, rental and second residence in Portugal, especially among retirees, digital nomads and French families. They also say that Porto is currently more attractive than Lisbon for French retirees and investors, as its prices are lower than the capital.
