The districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, and Guarda will remain under an orange warning until 6pm on Friday.
High temperatures are expected for these districts, ranging from 34°C to 38°C.
Also under a yellow warning due to heat, the least severe on a scale of three, are the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém, Évora, and Beja until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The remaining districts on the mainland have no warnings.
For today, the IPMA forecasts a drop in temperatures across the continent.
The persistently high maximum temperatures have also led the IPMA to place a yellow warning on the mountainous regions of Madeira.
