Dedicated to two of the region’s most distinctive delicacies, plangaio and maranho, the event brings together gastronomy, music, and tradition. According to the municipality, these traditional dishes will be prepared and served by associations from the Union of Parishes of Sobreira Formosa and Alvito da Beira, ensuring an authentic culinary experience.

The festivities open on 19 September with performances by João Carvalho & Diogo da Gaita, followed by the itinerant theatre company Cia Mimabô with As Velhas do Plangaio. A tribute concert to Portuguese rock by N’ASA will keep the energy high before DJ Kadiv closes the evening.

On 20 September, the programme begins at 3pm with Fanfarra Bizarra and a live cooking demonstration led by chef Joana Barrios. Theatre group Váatão will also bring street performances to the festival atmosphere, while the highlight of the evening will be a concert by Toy, one of Portugal’s most popular entertainers.

The final day features a performance by the Estreito Cavaquinhos Group, a traditional bread-making workshop led by the Póvoa Association, and further fanfare entertainment from Váatão. The festival will conclude with a concert by Violas para Voz, before the customary firework display lights up the night sky.

Every year, the Festival of Plangaio and Maranho attracts thousands of visitors eager to taste these regional specialities and immerse themselves in the culture of Proença-a-Nova. Combining food, music and community spirit, it has become a flagship event in the municipality’s cultural calendar.
