Today, Easter Sunday, the town of São Brás de Alportel was filled with flowers, as it once again hosted the Festa das Tochas Floridas.
Overnight, residents decorated the town using thousands of fresh flowers, creating detailed patterns across the streets and adorning balconies with bright fabrics. By morning, visitors gathered to walk through what felt like an open-air work of art.
The highlight of the day took place late in the morning with the traditional Easter procession. Men carried tall torches made entirely of flowers, walking through the decorated streets as they chanted in celebration of the resurrection.
After the procession, people didn’t rush off. The streets stayed busy as people gathered around food stalls, listened to music, and enjoyed the rest of the day together.
