Eight flights had arrived within a 30-minute period, resulting in a large number of passengers making their way through immigration at almost exactly the same time. Although all of the EES gates were working, the sheer volume of arriving passengers meant that queues quickly formed.

For those arriving on the easyJet Luton flight, the wait at border control lasted around 45 minutes. It was perhaps not the quickest welcome to Portugal, but with several aircraft arriving in such a short space of time, the delay was perhaps understandable.

The introduction of the Entry/Exit System has brought new procedures for many travellers entering the Schengen Area, with Faro Airport among those preparing and operating the new EES facilities. The working gates were certainly a positive sight, although the morning's rush of arrivals demonstrated how quickly queues can build when several flights land together.
