The Sovereign Portuguese Student Art Prize celebrates creativity and emerging artistic talent from schools across Portugal.

Bringing together submissions from students across the country, the Prize highlights the imagination, skill and individuality of young artists living and studying in Portugal today. The shortlisted artworks will be presented publicly over the coming months, with exhibitions and online voting inviting audiences to engage directly with the students’ work.

Members of the public can now vote online for their favourite artwork through the Sovereign Art Foundation website. The Public Vote Prize of €300 will be awarded to the student artist receiving the highest number of public votes, with an additional €800 awarded to their school.

Alongside the public vote, shortlisted works will also be reviewed by a judging panel. The Judges Prize of €500 will be awarded to the student artist receiving the highest score from the judges, with €1,500 awarded to the winning student’s school.

The Prize forms part of the Sovereign Art Foundation’s wider work supporting creativity, artistic opportunity and community engagement across Portugal. Alongside its exhibitions and art prizes, the Foundation delivers expressive arts programmes and artist-led workshops in Lisbon, Estremoz and the Algarve, working with children, schools, artists and local communities.

Across these programmes, SAF aims to create welcoming and supportive spaces where creativity can encourage communication, confidence and connection. Through workshops, exhibitions and collaborative projects, participants are invited to engage with artistic practice in accessible and meaningful ways.

Alongside its expressive arts programmes led by certified art therapists, SAF also collaborates with local artists to deliver free community workshops for children and families. These sessions provide opportunities for participants to engage directly with artists and contemporary creative practices through hands-on activities and shared creative experiences.

The Student Prize reflects the Foundation’s belief that creativity should be celebrated and accessible to everyone. By showcasing artworks created by young people from across Portugal, the Prize aims to encourage greater visibility for arts education and emerging creative talent nationwide.

As the campaign continues over the coming months, shortlisted artists and selected artworks will be featured through exhibitions, online platforms and public programming. Selected works will also be available for sale soon, with proceeds helping support both young artists and the Sovereign Art Foundation’s ongoing programmes for children in Portugal.
