The International School of Torres Vedras (EITV) is launching a full A-Level programme — the only one of its kind in the region. For an international community that has long looked towards Lisbon, or further afield, for a globally recognised route into higher education, the answer has arrived closer to home.

A-Levels are the respected British qualification accepted by universities across the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe and beyond. Where the standard Portuguese secondary path prepares students chiefly for national university entry, A-Levels are built for young people who could go on to study almost anywhere. That difference sits at the heart of EITV's promise: an education for life beyond borders.

“We are not simply preparing students. We are preparing citizens for a world without frontiers — young people ready to take their place wherever their ambitions lead them.” — Nancy Oliveira, Cambridge Curriculum Director at EITV

The two-year programme is designed for students aged 16 to 19 and pairs academic rigour with genuinely personalised guidance. Rather than a single fixed curriculum, the A-Levels at EITV are organised around four clear pathways — Business, Technological, Artistic and Scientific — so that each student can shape a route around their interests, strengths and university goals.

Learning is built on depth, independence and critical thinking, aligned with Cambridge International standards — one of the world's most widely recognised academic frameworks. A compulsory subject in Global Perspectives and Research develops the research, collaboration and communication skills that universities, and employers, increasingly look for. Throughout, students are supported by tailored academic and careers guidance to help them explore and compare universities worldwide.

All of this takes place on a 45,000 m² campus set in natural surroundings, where more than twenty nationalities are already represented across the school. The result is something increasingly rare: a genuinely international environment on Portugal's doorstep.

For internationally minded families, the appeal is straightforward. A child who studies A-Levels in EITV is not choosing between Portugal and the world. They are keeping both within reach.

EITV's A-Levels launch in September 2026, and enrolment is now open. To learn more about the programme and arrange a visit, contact the school at eitv.pt or email admissions@eitv.pt.
