The exhibition will remain on view until 30 September at the gallery space on Rua do Prior, in Faro.

The title evokes a childhood game: tapping someone on the shoulder and running away before they turn around. A gesture that is at once playful and provocative, in which contact exists only to immediately withdraw. The exhibition takes this image as a starting point, bringing together works that explore different ways of approaching the world through fictional and real elements, memories, landscapes, and a subtle sense of nostalgia. This childhood game therefore resonates as a way of addressing - or displacing - us from the position from which we normally view the world.

Between archive and fiction, João R. Ferreira constructs fragmented narratives in which drawing, image, and memory are continuously reorganised. Narrative also plays a central role in the painting of Paulo Albuquerque, who transforms observations of everyday life into dense compositions marked by layered elements, rhythm, and human relations.

In a more contemplative register, Vasco Maio develops distilled landscapes in which horizon, light, and atmosphere become instruments for exploring states of suspension, silence, and expectation. Symbolic dimensions emerge differently in the work of Patrícia Mariano, who inhabits a space between reality and imagination, creating figurative images of strong poetic and allegorical charge. Paula López-Bravo, meanwhile, operates between abstraction and figuration, using colour, gesture, and texture to construct perceptual spaces where memory, emotion, and experience intertwine.

Although distinct in their languages, the five artists share an attention to what remains open. Echoing the gesture suggested by the title, the works operate within a field of appearance and disappearance, inviting the viewer into brief yet persistent encounters; they do not share a single theme, but rather an impulse: to condense, in a single moment, what is usually hidden.

Based in the Algarve, GAMA RAMA is one of the region’s most active independent platforms for contemporary art, combining exhibition-making, production, and cultural programming within an ongoing experimental framework. Its recent expansion into larger premises in Faro’s historic centre reinforces its role as a cultural hub and a site for contemporary artistic exchange.
