In a statement, CP – Comboios de Portugal says this marks the fourth consecutive year of positive net results. It adds that this achievement led the National Statistics Institute (INE) to reclassify CP as a market entity, removing it from the State's budgetary perimeter, underscoring the strengthening of its economic and financial stability and autonomy within the public business sector.

According to the operator, financial performance in 2025 was bolstered by growth in traffic revenue, which reached €282.8 million, and by an increase in the volume of maintenance services provided to third parties, which totalled €21.4 million.

CP highlights the new record for this century in passenger numbers, noting that this consolidates the trend of increased rail transport usage in Portugal while contributing to a reduced carbon footprint, strengthened territorial cohesion, and an improved quality of life for citizens.

Key factors cited for this increase include the impact of the “Green Rail Pass” (Passe Ferroviário Verde), which expanded access to rail travel and encouraged the use of more sustainable mobility solutions, as well as the expansion of Alfa Pendular services, the reopening of the Beira Alta Line, and the reactivation of passenger services on the Leixões Line.
