This announcement was made by Joana Baptista, the city councillor responsible for Public Space Projects and Works, on Sunday, 28 June. The initiative aims to restore a river connection that last operated during Expo’98, when ferry services helped transport visitors to the exhibition site.

Once operational, ferries serving Cais do Sodré and Terreiro do Paço are also expected to call at Parque das Nações, providing an additional transport hub in eastern Lisbon.

In addition, the city is considering a dedicated river terminal for the 2028 edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa, and according to Baptista, the facility could be installed temporarily to accommodate the large number of festivalgoers travelling to the event.

These plans for the new terminal have been under discussion for several months. In January, Rui Ribeiro Rei, president of Transtejo Soflusa (TTSL), confirmed that the ferry operator was studying the feasibility of introducing a river link to Parque das Nações as part of its wider network.

The latest announcement comes as TTSL continues to expand its services elsewhere across the Tagus, with the operator recently confirming extended timetables on routes connecting Barreiro and Cacilhas with Lisbon. On weekdays, the first departures will now begin at 5am instead of 5.20am, while the final services will run until 2.30am rather than 1.40am.

Weekend and public holiday schedules have also been increased, with four additional daily crossings.
