While Paris tops the list of the most booked individual cities, Spain accounts for 26% of all international summer bookings made by Portuguese travellers, maintaining its position as the country's most popular overseas destination.

Paris was the most booked destination for Portuguese travellers this summer, followed by Funchal, Barcelona, Madrid and Ponta Delgada. Spanish favourites, including Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Málaga, also ranked among the most popular destinations.

Strong option for summer travel

Portugal itself remains a strong option for summer travel, representing 16% of all bookings. Much of that demand is focused on the country's island destinations, with Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo attracting a significant number of travellers.

Among destinations that have seen the biggest increase in bookings compared with last summer, Ponta Delgada recorded the strongest growth at 92%, followed by Angra do Heroísmo with 79%. Madrid also saw a notable increase of 45%, while bookings for Rome and Funchal both rose by 26%.

Less popular areas

The data also highlights growing interest in destinations that were less popular with Portuguese travellers a year ago. Málaga recorded the largest year-on-year increase, with bookings rising by 289%. Other destinations experiencing rapid growth include Corfu in Greece (180%), Valencia (162%) and Santorini (153%).

Portuguese travellers also continue to plan their holidays well in advance. According to the report, 78% booked their summer trips more than 90 days before departure, while 17% made reservations between 61 and 90 days in advance. Only 4% booked within two months of travelling.

One-week holidays

Most Portuguese are still opting for holidays of around one week. According to the data, 34% of bookings are for trips lasting seven to 13 days. Short city breaks of three to four days account for 24% of bookings, while stays of more than 21 days remain relatively uncommon at just 8%.

The report also offers insight into inbound tourism, showing that France remains the largest international source market for Portugal this summer, accounting for 42% of foreign bookings. Spain follows with 12%, ahead of Switzerland (11%), Germany (10%) and the United Kingdom (5%).

International visitors

Among international visitors, Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Funchal and Ponta Delgada continue to rank as the most popular Portuguese destinations for the summer season.

The findings are based on booking data analysed by eDreams and provide an overview of how Portuguese travel habits are evolving ahead of the peak holiday period.
