The strike is scheduled for 6 October, following the union's request for an urgent meeting with the government after the departure of Pedro Portugal Gaspar, former president of AIMA.

Workers demand separate career path

Among the workers' demands are the creation of a specific technical career path for migration workers, which would recognise the specialised and permanent nature of the functions performed by the agency.

The union also demands additional remuneration appropriate to the specialisation and responsibility of the functions performed by the employees. The STM also establishes a comparison with the valuation attributed to police entities that work in border control, such as the PSP and the GNR.

Among the tasks the union wants recognised are document verification, fraud detection, consultation and processing of information in databases, migratory risk analysis, processing applications, and applying Portuguese and European law.

The strike scheduled for 6 October will have nationwide effects and, as the notice states, will encompass all workers employed at AIMA.
