According to the company, with adjustments for temperature and working days, this increase was 3.3%.

For this period, it is "the highest consumption ever recorded in the national system, exceeding the previous maximum, verified in 2025, by approximately 900 GWh," it highlighted.

According to the same data, in June electricity consumption maintained this growth trend "with an annual increase of 3.0% (2.5% with adjustments for temperature effects and number of working days)."

On the other hand, in the first half of the year as a whole, “the hydroelectric productivity index registered 1.19, the wind productivity index 1.03, and the solar productivity index 0.79 (historical averages of 1)”, and during this period, “renewable production supplied 71% of consumption, divided between hydroelectric with 29%, wind with 26%, photovoltaic with 11%, and biomass with 5%”.

Natural gas production supplied 14% of consumption, and the remaining 15% corresponded to the import balance.

REN indicated that in June, “conditions were unfavourable for hydroelectric production, with the productivity index not exceeding 0.54 (historical average of 1), despite storage levels remaining high”.

In turn, wind power recorded a productivity index of 1.08, while solar power had an index of 0.93 (historical average of 1).

In solar production, "the highest peak ever was reached with approximately 3,800 MW [megawatts], recorded on June 29th."

Thus, overall, renewable production supplied 55% of consumption, non-renewable production 12%, and imported energy 33%.

Finally, "the natural gas market recorded a 9% year-on-year decrease in June, due to a 33% contraction in the electricity production segment."

In the conventional segment, which includes other consumers, there was a positive year-on-year increase of 5% this month.

"In June, the Sines LNG terminal fully supplied the national system, originating from Nigeria (55%), the USA (29%), and Russia (16%)," said REN.

In the first six months as a whole, "the accumulated annual consumption of natural gas registered an overall increase of 6.1%", with Nigeria and the United States remaining the main sources of gas consumed in Portugal, representing 56% and 33% of the total, respectively.

Finally, "8% of the gas originated in Russia, while the remaining 7% entered through the gas pipeline interconnection with Spain".
