Alongside running artist retreats, songwriting camps and showcases, Gracie has welcomed an incredible range of talent to the region, from emerging independent artists to internationally recognised performers. Through her network and events, artists with hundreds of millions and collectively billions of streams have performed, collaborated and connected with local audiences, helping to establish the Algarve as an exciting destination for live music and creativity.

As the founder of In The Spotlight, Raquelle’s mission has always been simple: create the kind of supportive music community she wished existed when she was navigating the industry herself.

Q: What inspired you to start In The Spotlight?

I wanted to create opportunities for artists to be seen and heard. I’ve always believed there’s room for everyone. In The Spotlight was born from a desire to build community and create meaningful stages for artists at every level. It’s also been a privilege to create a platform with original music for live music lovers here in the Algarve to enjoy and connect with.

Q: What has been your proudest achievement over the last three years?

Watching newer artists share their stories, build confidence, release music and find their audience is incredibly rewarding. Also, bringing internationally recognised artists to the Algarve alongside championing local talent has been a huge highlight.

Q: Why is original music so important to you?

Original music tells stories that haven’t been told before. It’s where innovation, vulnerability and artistry live. I love great covers, but helping artists share their own voice is what truly excites me. When an artist connects with the audience, that is a powerful experience for everyone in the room.

Q: How would you describe the Algarve music scene today?

It’s growing rapidly. There’s an incredible amount of talent here and audiences are becoming increasingly open to discovering original music. I genuinely believe we’re only at the beginning of what’s possible.

Q: What’s next for In The Spotlight?

We’re moving into an exciting new chapter with monthly showcases, artist development opportunities, retreats and special guest performances. My goal is to continue creating stages where artists can shine while bringing exceptional live music experiences to audiences across the Algarve.

I’m incredibly grateful to every artist who has trusted me with their music, every venue that has opened its doors, and every audience member who has supported the journey. Building a music community takes all of us, and it’s been an honour to play a part in that story. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
