In the race that concluded the competition, Fernando Pimenta, who completed the distance in 21:57.79 minutes, battled for the win with Dane Mads Pedersen, who crossed the finish line 4.81 seconds behind the Portuguese athlete. Spaniard Javier Lopez completed the podium.

This was Portugal's third medal at the Montreal World Cup, after the silver medals in the K4 500 meters, won by Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista and Pedro Casinha, and the K1 1,000 metres, both in the men's category.

In the same event, Bruno Brasileiro, who had a problem with his boat during the race, finished 12th in 23:49.33 minutes.

For Fernando Pimenta, this is his 31st gold medal in World Cups, adding to the Olympic medalist's vast collection of podium finishes.

In the morning, Bruno Brasileiro finished 9th in the K1 500 metres A final, which was won by the German Jacob Schopf. The Czech Josef Dostal won the silver medal and the Australian Jean van der Westhuyzen completed the podium with the bronze.

In the K2 500 meters Olympic distance, Teresa Portela and Clara Duarte finished 3rd in the B final, won by the Spanish crew, ahead of the Czech Republic duo.

Iago Bebiano, from the Algarve, finished second in the K1 500 meters C final, in a race won by the Dane Rasmus Knudsen, while João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, who qualified for the K2 500m C final, did not start the race.
