This monthly performance contributed to a year-to-date total of 28.2 million passengers between January and May, reflecting a 3.2% increase over the same period in 2025.

During the fifth month of the year, an average of 115,500 passengers disembarked daily at national airports, representing a 2.4% increase over the 112,800 recorded in May of the previous year. That same period saw 23,800 commercial flight landings, marking a 1.5% increase in air connections.

International traffic continued to dominate airport operations in May, accounting for 83.9% of disembarking passengers, equivalent to three million people.

Europe was the primary origin, accounting for 69.9% of the total, followed by the Americas with 9.7%. Regarding embarkations, 83.6% of traffic was international, totalling 2.9 million passengers; Europe was the main destination, accounting for 70.5% of departures, while the Americas ranked second at 9%.

In the cumulative figures for the first five months of 2026, Lisbon Airport maintained its national lead, accounting for 50.6% of total passenger traffic, representing 14.3 million travellers and a 2.1% increase.

Porto Airport stood out with the country's most significant growth, rising 7.9% to record 6.8 million passengers, while Faro Airport handled 3.5 million passengers, representing 12.5% of total traffic and a year-on-year increase of 4%.

During this period, the United Kingdom remained the primary country of origin and destination for flights, followed by France, Spain, and Germany; Brazil rounded out the top five countries of origin, while Italy held fifth place among the top destinations.
