Opened in 1988 on the Blue Line, it was designed by architect Ezequiel Nicolau, with a major artistic intervention by the painter Júlio Pomar.

Inside the station, Júlio Pomar created a series of expressive azulejo panels. Instead of classic tile patterns, he used rapid, energetic line work and bold colour to draw portraits and scenes that feel almost sketched directly on the walls. T

he main figures are four major Portuguese writers: Luís de Camões, Bocage, Fernando Pessoa, and Almada Negreiros.

Their faces and gestures appear across corridors, staircases and platform areas, mixed with other figures such as mermaids, animals, cafés and fragments of city life, echoing themes from their poems.
