This is the third consecutive month in which fuel prices in the archipelago have fallen, after gasoline increased by 32.3 cents per litre between February and May and diesel by 53 cents per litre.

From 1 August, the price of unleaded 95 octane gasoline is set at €1.816 per litre in the Azores, 1.6 cents less than what was charged in July.

Road diesel will cost €1.722 per litre, representing a decrease of 3.1 cents per litre.

The price of coloured diesel for agriculture and fishing, defined in another decree, also decreased by 3.1 cents per litre in August.

Coloured and marked diesel used in agriculture will cost €1.422 per litre, and coloured and marked diesel used in fishing will cost €1.232 per litre.

In April and May, the Regional Government of the Azores lowered the ISP (Special Consumption Tax) by 3.5 cents per litre for gasoline and four cents per litre for diesel, to mitigate the sharp rise in oil prices.

In June, the Azorean executive decided to increase the discount on the ISP, but the Bloco de Esquerda/Açoores accused the Regional Government of not applying the reduction foreseen in a resolution approved in May by the Azorean parliament, of 10 cents per litre for gasoline and 15 cents for diesel.
